I had to share this story with you.

The best part of being a health coach is that I get to be a part of people’s amazing transformational stories. Stories that make you realize no matter how many times you’ve tried and failed, it’s never too late to turn your health around.

Here’s where Durita was BEFORE joining the Better Beyond 50 30-Day Reset...

I have a 60-year history with dieting. I’ve lost and gained literally hundreds of pounds and I’ve done every diet under the sun. This was the cycle: I’d get to a weight and a size where I felt enough shame and hatred toward myself that I’d take drastic measures to lose the weight (for me that was 175 pounds and a size 16) and once I got down to 155 pounds, I’d start feeling good again, so I’d go back to my old habits. Then, I’d get right back to the 175-pound range, where I developed huge rolls around my midsection, and the cycle continued. wedding dresses for short women

For years, my daughter tried to convince me that everything I knew about losing weight was outdated. But I believed that the low-calorie, low-fat eating worked because I always lost weight (even though I never kept it off). I really believed you could eat whatever you wanted as long as it was in moderation and within 1200 calories a day.

I still remember the humiliation of breaking out of the zipper in the dress I wore to my daughter’s wedding one hour before the ceremony. I wore a black blazer over the top of my dress the whole time to cover up the broken zipper.

In May of 2016 my husband and I went to Napa Valley on our 20th wedding anniversary. I weighed 175 pounds. When I got home and saw pictures of myself I could hardly believe it.
That’s when I said to myself, “this is it!” I needed to do something. I was so desperate. But I thought, “you’re 67-years-old. How many times can you lose 25 pounds and gain it back again? Maybe it’s time to look for a different solution.”

I joined a program that had me weighing and measuring my food, and you were not allowed to eat any foods with flour or sugar. I had some success, but there were a couple of problems: 1. I found the people in the program unforgiving and obsessive about slip ups. I couldn’t imagine giving up sugar and flour permanently for the rest of my life. 2. There was no emphasis on health. It was only about weight loss. And at my age I realized that there’s only one reason to lose weight—and that’s for my health. (My bikini days are over!)

I’m not exactly sure how, but I found Better Beyond 50. What appealed to me was the emphasis on holistic health, and Melissa’s “80/20” approach to clean eating. (And I like that it was for women over 50.)

The previous program I was in expected perfection and there was a lot of “never”— never eat flour, never eat sugar, never eat processed foods. And I just couldn’t wrap my head around never. I actually pictured myself in the future attending my grandson’s wedding and not being able to eat his wedding cake! I was so worried about that. It’s silly, but I realized I couldn’t embrace a program of “never.” So, I dumped that program and joined the Better Beyond 50 30-Day Reset ( ) .

Here’s where Durita is AFTER joining the Better Beyond 50 30-Day Reset…

It didn’t happen overnight. I made changes slowly in baby steps, as I was ready. I’ve lost 45 pounds, and I now wear a size 6! My 43-year-old daughter just gave me five of her size 6 golf skirts, and I’m wearing them! I can’t believe that I can actually fit into them.

I keep hearing that you can’t lose weight after menopause—that it’s supposed to be hard after 50, but this is not true at all. In fact, it seemed easier losing weight now than it did when I was in my 20s. This time losing weight was different for me. Once I got down to the weight where I’d normally quit (which was in the 150 range) I didn’t feel like quitting! I had this momentum. I was eating delicious food that was satisfying and it motivated me to keep going.

Today, I weigh under 130 pounds (my weight now ranges between 126 and 129 pounds everyday). I haven't been this weight since I was in my 30s! And I’m easily maintaining my weight—it’s become effortless.

I have a big circle of friends who all have varying opinions about what I’m doing. Some say that “life is too short to live the way that I’m living. Loosen up!” They encourage me to eat the junk that they’re eating. But the truth is, I don’t ever feel deprived.

Joining Better Beyond 50 isn’t just about weight loss—it’s about getting healthy. And I didn’t have to be 100% perfect for it to be effective.

I know I have at least another 20 years of my life. The reason I joined BB50 is because I don’t want to be managing chronic illnesses for the last 10 or 15 years of my life like my mother did.

Before BB50, my blood pressure was out of control, I was pre-diabetic and well on my way to having a stroke. After losing the excess weight, I decided to tell my daughter the truth about these health conditions I had discussed with my doctor. (I had hidden this from her because I didn't want her nagging me.)

When I told her, she just started crying. She told me that I was giving her the greatest gift by taking care of myself. It’s true—I’ve not only given the gift of health to myself, but also to my husband, my daughter, and my young grandsons. (I didn’t become a grandmother until I was in my 60’s— I need to take care of myself so I can see them grow up!)

Our health is our most important asset—if you don’t have your health you don’t have anything! I did this for my health, and I know I’ve added years to my life!
